Artist Statement:
by Loraine Shue-Weber
Loraine has been an artist since she was 5 years old when she colored "in the lines" of her first coloring book, which she still has! She excelled in art throughout her high school years. While in high school she was awarded a year long scholarship to Art Center School of Design in Pasadena, CA for a Saturday morning drawing class. She has won many other awards including an El Camino College Art Department scholarship in 1995 from El Camino College in Torrance, CA and The Associate Award in a juried show at Palos Verdes Art Center in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA in 2000. It wasn't until she graduated Cum Laude from California State University Long Beach in 1999 with a degree in Fine Arts that she began to realize her full potential as an artist.
She uses oils to paint colorful, impressionistic large scale figurative paintings based on childhood memories, found photographs, or from family photo albums. Since she paints from black and white images she uses her creative powers and vivid imagination to give her portraits new life. Loraine's paintings are glimpses of long forgotton captured moments in time of ordinary people.
In addition, Loraine also does commission work and one may contact her using the Contact button.
